Abstract Submissions

Abstract Submission have now closed.

If you have submitted an abstract, you will receive a decision within a few weeks from the deadline, and you should have received an acknowledgement email from us.

Please note that, while the conference is hybrid, all presenters (oral or poster) will be required to attend in person.

Themes & Subthemes

We are accepting a wide variety of abstracts across our themes in order to showcase the diversity of activities undertaken by early career anatomists.


If you have any pieces of work that fall into the below themes, we encourage you submit whatever level you feel you are!

Considering the following subthemes are topics embedded throughout each major theme, we will also be accepting abstracts for poster presentations related to:

  • Embracing Diversity, Representation, and Sustainability in anatomy
  • Career Journey and/or Reflections Related to Anatomy
  • Mindfulness and Well-being in Anatomy  

Theme Details

Our conference themes can be quite broad, so below are a few areas these theme may be more evident or align.


Co-teaching Models: bridging expertise between colleagues

  • Academics, technicians and students 
  • Student-led research and collaborative learning experiences


Industry-Academic Partnerships in Anatomy Education

  • Joint research and teaching initiatives between universities and external stakeholders (healthcare institutions and industry)


Integrating Multiple Disciplines in teaching and in diverse professional settings, including funding and policymaking.

  • Healthcare, archaeology, sports, preservation techniques


Sports-related Anatomical Education and Research

  • Physiotherapy, Injury prevention, treatment, medical device design & prosthetics, rehabilitation, wearable technologies, anatomical adaptations in elite athletes 


The Evolution of Anatomical Knowledge

  • Key discoveries and impacts, anatomical terminology and language through different centuries and cultures


The Shifts from Dissection-based to Technology-Assisted Learning

  • Virtual and augmented reality, adapting anatomical learning for different generations of learners, 3D printing and digital modelling.

Submission Guidelines

General Instructions

  1. Abstracts must be submitted using the abstract template found at the bottom of this page and sent as a Word Document via email attachment to either of the following email addressed: abstracts@ecanatomists.org entitled ‘Abstract (First author’s name and surname).docx’ by 5th of May 2025 at 23:59 BST.
  2. Authors should indicate whether they wish their abstract to be submitted for consideration for a platform, poster, or bite-size presentation.
  3. The first author listed must be the presenting author.
  4. Co-authors must have contributed to the work being presented and must be fully aware of the content of the abstract before submitting it.
  5. Authors must include information on ethical approval where relevant.
  6. Do not submit any work that has been previously presented at a conference (unless you have obtained permission) or has been published or is currently in press.
  7. Instruction on the preparation of the poster, bite-size presentation, or oral presentation will be sent with the acceptance notification of the abstract.
  8. Submission of an abstract acknowledges your acceptance for the abstract to be published in the official ECA conference abstract book.
  9. Abstracts not conforming to abstract format guidelines (see below “Abstract Format”) will be returned for reformatting prior to being reviewed and must be re-submitted by the abstract deadline.
  10. You will receive confirmation of us receiving your abstract within 10 working days. If you have not received it in this time, please contact team@ecanatomists.org.

Abstract Format

  • Title of Abstract should be no more than 20 words.
  • Author(s) names: include first name(s) and family name. The presenting author should be underlined.
  • Affiliation details of all authors: department, institution, city, country.
  • Email address of presenting author.
  • Social Media handle(s) of authors.
  • Indicate if abstract is to be considered for oral platform, oral bite-size, or poster presentation or if you have no preference.
  • Abstracts are limited to a maximum of 250 words (excluding the title, authors, affiliations, and contact details of first author).
  • Abstracts should be written in English, font size 12.
  • Keywords: three keywords should be included with each abstract.
  • Abstracts should align with at least one of the major abstract themes or subthemes (see above).
  • Do not include any tables or illustrations in the abstract.
  • Do not include any citations or references.
  • Acknowledgements: should include grant support if present (including grant number) and disclosure of any financial relationship that the author(s) may have with the manufacturer/supplier of any commercial products or services related to the work.
  • State if ethical approval was required, and if so then include the approval details.
